I first met the Vroegops 2 years ago when we adopted our adorable puppy Dutch from one of their litters. Philip and I have kept in touch with Todd and Janet over the past couple years and they contacted me about photographing their family. Janet really wanted capture her family (2 parents, 5 kids, 3 dogs) as they are now before her kids start marrying and moving out. So I headed down to their beautiful home surrounded by fields, trees, and dirt roads for an afternoon of fun. You can really see the love between Todd and Janet and the fun relationship the kids have with each other.
I love snapping a photo when the family is “getting ready” for the real thing. It’s the outtakes that often capture the most personality in a family. I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out the puppies in this picture – in the back is Pepper (Dutch’s mom), on the lower left is Ebby and to the right is Frodo, the little stud (Dutch’s dad).
Heading down to the spots Janet picked out for the photos. She did such a great job!
I can only take so many posed photos with siblings before I’m ready for some fun. Here I said, “Umm, punch each other.” I think it worked!
This is Luke. Contrary to popular belief, he is the oldest. He goes to Calvin College, as does his younger brother Mitch.
This is Mitch. Contrary to popular belief, he is not the oldest! I felt really terrible when I made this mistake… at least I wasn’t the first.
This is Tessa. She is a senior in high school and next year plans to attend Calvin College. Man, how’d I get stuck with all these Calvin fans? I actually wore my Hope College fleece that day… completely unintentional!
This is Caleb. He loves to pick on his little sister Naomi. But I think he does it cause he loves her. (That’s probably supposed to be a secret)
This is Naomi, the baby of the family, but that doesn’t stop her from dreaming big. Even though her siblings all go to Calvin (or plan to), she wants to go to Harvard. Or Yale.
All done here, onto the next spot!
This barn wasn’t part of Janet’s plan, but since we were right by it and the home is rented, we figured it couldn’t hurt to stop. I’m so glad we did, this barn was awesome!
Here are Todd & Janet. A beautiful couple. You can really see how much they love each other.
Thank you so much Vroegops for letting me spend the afternoon with you! I had such a great time getting to know you all a little better.
